Old Guelph and new Guelph

Guelph splits neatly in two for our kind of work. North of the rivers is the old city. Exhibition Park, the Ward, the streets around downtown and the General Hospital area. Limestone and yellow brick, big trees, houses that are a hundred years old or more, with the steep stairs, small closets and stone basements that come with that age.

South of the university the city is much newer. Kortright Hills, Westminster Woods, Clairfields, Pine Ridge. Two storey family homes from the eighties onward, with open basements, double garages and wide staircases.

The old homes are harder to move out of. The new ones usually hold more. We see both every month, and the plan for each is different.

What makes a Guelph job different

Stone basements in the older homes are often damp, and things stored there for years may not be worth keeping. We help sort what has survived from what has not, and handle disposal of the rest.
Older homes near downtown often have no driveway or a shared one. We plan truck access and parking ahead of moving day so there are no surprises on the street.
Guelph runs its own waste and recycling system, separate from Waterloo Region, with its own rules for what goes where. We know them, so nothing gets refused at the gate.

What we do

We start with a free walkthrough and hand you a written plan and one written price. Then we sort alongside the person moving, and they decide what comes, what goes to family, what is donated and what is sold. We pack and wrap everything, move it, and set up the new home so that it is livable on the first night. Bed made, kitchen unpacked, pictures up.

Once the move is done, we can empty and clean the old house so it is ready to sell or hand over.

Good items go to a local registered charity partner and you receive a donation receipt. Valuables can go to our auction partner if you choose.

Where Guelph downsizers are going

Guelph has good options for the next stage, and most people we move stay in the city. Condos downtown and in the south end, bungalow communities for adults, and retirement residences across town. Some move to be closer to children in Kitchener-Waterloo, the Halton area or Toronto.
